Right On Things To Do In Corpus This Weekend

Yeah baby, it’s the weekend, almost! And the best part, the rain is behind us! As long as you don’t get carried away by the prehistoric mosquitoes you’re all good. I caught one the other day that was about an inch long, so I kept him. His name is now Fred and he gets mad if I touch his yogurt in the fridge. Alright.. moving on from bad jokes we have plenty to do this weekend. Get jazzy on a boat, learn to kayak during sunset or bachata till your hips can’t bachata no more! Then let’s get the weekend started off right with all the Right On things to do in Corpus this weekend.

Take A Jazzy Cruise

Thursday, 8pm
Harrison’s Landing

Head over to Harrison’s Landing and hop on the Japonica for a sunset cruise. They’re bringing along Claudia Melton to jazz it up while you relax and take in the Corpus skyline. It’s a BYOB which really stands for bring all you want! Advanced ticket purchases required so you better get on it!

Kayak Around Mustang Island

Friday, 6pm
Mustang Island

Learn the basics of kayaking with the Texas Parks and Recreation crew. It’s a (technically) free event, you have to pay the $5 entrance fee into the park but then it’s free. They’re meeting up at the headquarters then heading across the street to the Fish Pass launch area. They take you on a little mile and half jaunt that should take in total about 2 hours. Since the party starts at 6pm you’ll surely get a peaceful sunset to view while paddling around.

Laugh Your A** Off

Friday and Saturday, 9:30pm
Sal’s Bronx Pizza

Head over to Sal’s Bronx Pizza and check out Erik Knowles stand up.  If you can crack up you a marine company then you know you pretty good at telling some jokes. That’s exactly how this guy got started and hits on some military tendencies, dad responsibilities and every day social issues.

Learn A New Dance

Saturday, 2pm
CC Ballroom By The Bay

Sign up for Third Coast Dance’s bachata workshop with Maria Ramos. If you don’t know how to bachata or just want to get better. Maria Ramos is coming all the way down from NYC to give you a lesson on the sensual/traditional dance. She doesn’t only kill it with bachata, she does salsa and Latin fusion too.

Enjoy A Movie At The Park

Saturday, 8:30pm
Cole Park Amphitheater

Yep you read that right and no it’s not Friday. The Bay Jammin’ Cinema Series is putting on a special Saturday night movie. Abominable will be the feature presentation, I believe this one was rained out which is why we get the special movie night after they just put one together for Friday night as well. So grab those lawn chairs and coolers, you can bring the kids if you want and spend a night out on the Cole Park lawn.

Grab A Cup Of Joe And Car Mingle

Sunday, 10am
Coral Bean Cafe

Cars & Coffee holds their monthly get together in the parking lot of Coral Bean Cafe. It’s a chance for car owners to hang out, talk shop and show off their car. This one sounds more neighborhood friendly and I think the neighborhood watch would approve. They have some ground rules which include no burnouts, no revving, no 2 steps (I thought that was a dance) and no pulls. So if you have a car you want to go show off and can abide by the rules, definitely make it out Sunday.

Support The Traveling Library

Sunday, 4pm
Next To Fresco

El Local Collective is hosting their monthly People’s Market Sunday. This months market is in support of The Traveling Library, their goal is to help literacy and provide the materials to keep people reading. Go hang out and shop around, they’ll have over 20 vendors setup plus DJ Rene setting the mood.
